What Are Himalayan Salt Lamps?

Himalayan salt is a type of rock salt mined in the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains. These natural deposits range in color from light orange to dark pink with some crystals having a soft white or translucent color. A salt lamp is simply a piece of this ancient rock that has been hollowed out to allow room for a light bulb or candle. The light glows through the medium of the salt crystal casting a soft subtle glow. An average salt lamp that produces a candle-like glow can emit enough negative ions to affect a space the size of an office cubicle.
