If you have a deck and love spending time entertaining or just relaxing out on your deck, you realize how important deck lighting can be. Now while candles are undeniably romantic, they are not the safest deck lighting. So how do you light your deck while making sure that everyone is safe?
On the market today there are vast choices in how much or how little you want to use lighting on your deck. One of the most common deck lighting choices is deck post lights. These are attached to the tops of each upright post, usually on the stair corner posts. The drawback to this form of deck lighting is that it can become expensive very quickly if you want/need more than a couple of this type of light. Most start out at around $35, but can be well over $100 per light.
Another option is to install rectangular deck lights. These are lights that are installed on the upright posts on your deck and shine downward to give you a warm glow for your deck lighting. These can also be used on the balusters, or "stair sticks" as they are sometimes referred to. These are the upright posts that connect the stair railing to the stair. This kind of lighting is also not inexpensive, but can be more efficiently used if you don't have raised end caps on your deck corners.
