Mission also referred to as "Frank Lloyd Wright", "Craftsman" or "Prairie" is a style of stained glass that has geometrical design patterns. Unlike the traditional "Tiffany" style patterns that are single faceted designs, floral or patterns of the dragonfly on them. The mission style portrays the geometric designs. Some styles of the mission appearance will also contain Aztec design patterns.

The differences between the two are obvious but are still very appealing to the eye. While the debate continues about the true origin of the term "mission style lamp," the style itself remains very distinctive and very popular to this day. However, legend has it that the Mission style concept originated around the year 1895 by Joseph McHugh, a New York furniture manufacturer. The Tiffany style concept was started by L.C. Tiffany in 1899, also of New York.

The colors seen on the Mission stained glass and Tiffany stained glass are pretty much the same and share the same blends. Mission style uses subtle colors it takes from the inspiration of the earth, specifically the desert. The colors of the mission style stained glass are usually gold, amber or brown. They do manufacture green, red, blue or rich orange as well.

Tiffany style colors share some of the same shades as the Mission style. Olive green color with red, blue and amber.

These colors are meant to fit into the surroundings of dark wood furniture and earthy tones. These lamps help to emphasize the natural materials like wood furniture and wood structures within your home or office. The Mission style concept has blended itself with the company called Arts & Crafts. And between the concept and the company, these lamps have become considered as an Accent of Appeal.
